Official: “Žalgiris” releases Hollins

Austin Hollins, a 32-year-old American, embarked on a trial period with the Kaunas “Žalgiris” team in mid-December, but unfortunately, his journey with the Lithuanian champions has come to an end as both the club and the 193 cm tall guard mutually agreed not to extend their collaboration for the remainder of the season.

Hollins, making his way to Lithuania, had recently emerged from a prolonged hiatus from the basketball court, during which he underwent rehabilitation to recover from a significant injury suffered in the previous season. Despite facing challenges during his recovery, he committed to joining the Kaunas team for the trial period, eager to contribute to their success.

During his brief stint in the EuroLeague, Hollins showcased his skills in eight games, averaging 12 minutes on the court and posting an average of 3.9 points. His return to competitive play was a testament to his determination and resilience in overcoming the obstacles posed by his injury.

In the Lithuanian championship, Hollins had the opportunity to participate in three games, where he demonstrated his scoring prowess by averaging 6.3 points. Additionally, he contributed significantly in terms of efficiency, earning 9.7 efficiency points during these appearances.

Following a thorough evaluation of the trial period, the decision was made to explore alternative options. Paulius Jankūnas, the director of Kaunas “Žalgiris,” commended Hollins for his professionalism during this short period, expressing admiration for the player’s dedication and work ethic.

The Kaunas “Žalgiris” team extends its gratitude to Hollins for his contributions during his time with the team. They appreciate his efforts and sportsmanship, wishing him the best of luck in all his future endeavors and success in his continued basketball career.
